What is Agarwood ?
Agarwood from Laos is precious natural resinous wood formed in the heartwood of Aquiliaria trees (the specie here is Aquiliaria crassna) wen they undergo a unique transformation process. Normally, the wood of these trees is pale and unscented. However, when the tree is naturally wounded pr infected, it produces a dark, aromatic resin as a defense mechanism. This resin-impregnated wood is what the world knows as Agarwood (also called oud). The process may take 10 to 30 years, and only a small percentage of wild trees naturally develop significant resin content.
What makes Laotian Agarwood truly exceptional is its deep, complex fragrance profile (rich, earthy, and subtly sweet) highly valued in perfumery, traditional medicine and spiritual practices.
The rarity of agarwood comes from several factors:
1. Natural Formation – Only a small percentage of Aquilaria trees produce this resin (fewer than 7–10%), and it can take decades to form.
2. Overharvesting – High global demand, especially in the Middle East and Asia, has led to scarcity in the wild.
3. Limited Geography – Genuine agarwood is found only in specific regions of Southeast Asia, with Laos being one of the few countries known for its high-quality oud.
Because of these factors, agarwood from Laos is considered one of the rarest and most valuable natural resources in the fragrance world.
How do we produce our Agarwood ?
Inoculation Process
On our own plantations in Laos, Agarwood forms when Aquilaria trees are naturally inoculated with a special fungal process, triggering the tree to produce resin-rich heartwood. This rare, aromatic resin is the source of premium agarwood used in incense, perfumes, and essential oils, turning ordinary wood into a highly prized treasure.
